Corporate Operations Manager – Construction Materials or Yard

Position Summary
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations across yard locations serving the construction industry. This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant operations involving material handling, equipment use, and customer service. The Operations Manager leads and supports equipment operators, scale attendants, and yard personnel while coordinating closely with sales, dispatch, and logistics to meet customer and operational demands.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Yard Management
Oversee day-to-day operations of yard facilities supplying materials to the construction industry
Ensure efficient material flow, loading/unloading, weighing, and dispatch processes
Monitor productivity, workflow, and operational performance across yards
Coordinate equipment availability and yard readiness to meet customer and project demands
People Leadership & Supervision
Lead, coach, and support equipment operators, scale attendants, and yard staff
Ensure adequate staffing levels and support scheduling as required
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with Ontario health and safety legislation, including OHSA requirements
Promote and enforce safe work practices, policies, and procedures
Customer & Stakeholder Coordination
Work closely with sales, dispatch, and logistics teams to support customer needs
Address operational issues impacting customer service and delivery timelines
Act as a point of escalation for yard-related concerns
Equipment & Asset Oversight
Monitor equipment utilization and report issues or improvement opportunities
Continuous Improvement & Reporting
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, safety, and service quality
Assist with developing and maintaining standard operating procedures
Support company initiatives related to growth, compliance, and operational excellence
Qualifications & Experience
5+ years of operations or yard management experience in construction, aggregates, materials supply, or a related industry
Proven experience supervising front-line operational staff
Strong understanding of construction materials, yard operations, or logistics environments
Working knowledge of Ontario health and safety regulations
Experience managing heavy equipment operations is an asset
Strong leadership and team management skills
Proficiency with operational systems, reporting tools, and basic computer applications
Working Conditions
Primarily based in yard and outdoor environments
Exposure to construction materials, heavy equipment, and varying weather conditions
Occasional extended hours may be required to meet operational demands
